Meet Jennifer – The Heart and Soul Behind Softdishes.com
Hi, I’m Jennifer but around here, most people just call me the one who always feeds your soul.
My love for cooking started in the humblest of kitchens my grandmother’s. I still remember being barely tall enough to reach the counter, standing on a stool with flour on my cheeks, watching her hands move like magic as she folded dough, stirred sauces, and told stories that felt like warm hugs.
We didn’t have much growing up. Some nights, dinner was a creative challenge with just a few pantry items and love as the main ingredient. But every single meal was full of heart. That’s what taught me early on: it’s not about fancy ingredients or expensive tools it’s about turning simple food into unforgettable memories.
Years later, after working in corporate America and feeling completely burnt out, I came home one night, pulled out my grandmother’s old recipe box, and made her Sunday chicken pot pie. As the scent filled my kitchen, something awakened in me. I remembered who I was. I remembered what made me feel alive. That was the day I traded deadlines for dough and spreadsheets for spatulas.
Now, I’m a self taught chef, full time recipe creator, and the proud voice behind this blog where every dish has a story and every story has a taste. I specialize in cozy, feel good recipes that are easy to follow, family friendly, and made with real ingredients you probably already have in your kitchen.
But there’s another ingredient that’s made my journey even richer: my daughter.
Every weekend, she and I turn the kitchen into our playground. We mix, stir, spill, giggle, and sometimes even burn things and that’s okay. Cooking with her has become our little tradition. It’s not just about teaching her how to crack eggs or whisk pancake batter (though she’s a pro at both!). It’s about sharing stories, passing down family recipes, and making memories that will outlive any dish we create. Our kitchen may be messy, but it’s filled with love and the sweetest kind of chaos.
But this isn’t just my story. It’s yours too.
Maybe you’re a busy parent trying to make a 20 minute meal that still feels special. Maybe you’ve never cooked before and don’t know where to start. Or maybe, like me once, you’re just looking for a reminder of what home tastes like.
Wherever you are in your cooking journey welcome. You’ve found a little corner of the internet that’s warm, delicious, and made just for you.
So pull up a chair, grab your favorite mug, and stay awhile. There’s always something simmering here and I promise, it’s going to be so good. 💛
